Some Golden Daybreak

I just finished Mary Kirby Servey's funeral a few hours ago. The one hymn she requested was "Some Golden Daybreak." I'd never heard it before, but here's the last verse and chorus.

Oh, what a meeting, there in the skies
No tears nor crying shall dim our eyes
Loved ones united eternally
Oh, what a daybreak that morn will be
Some golden daybreak Jesus will come
Some golden daybreak, battles all won
He'll shout the vict'ry, break thro' the blue
Some golden daybreak, for me, for you.

The main passage I read today started with this verse, "Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope." We grieved a little today. We were sorrowful a little today. But we found hope in Jesus, because Mary had put her hope in Jesus. We don't have to grieve like the rest of men who have no hope. Do you have hope?

God blessed us with a beautiful fall day to rejoice and remember together.

Be Refreshed!

Proverb of the Day: Proverbs 28:1 "The wicked man flees though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion."

Scripture of the Day: 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 "Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words."

Quote of the Day: Last words of Hudson Taylor "I am so weak that I can hardly write, I cannot read my Bible, I cannot even pray, I can only lie still in God's arms like a little child, and trust."

Glad to hear your education was expanded by learning "Some Golden Daybreak," written by the Blackmore's, father and son. Beautiful song--and perfect for the memorial service of a believer. I can remember singing the refrain with my parents at camp, over 60 years ago.

If you enjoy reading about our hymns and their origin I encourage you to check out my daily blog on the subject, Wordwise Hymns.
